Client Highlight

Paula Brekken

Let’s hear it for our April Client Highlight, Paula Brekken! She is one of our clients who has made leaps and bounds in her progress. Her determination and grit has resulted in tremendous progress, she is on a whole other level than when she started. Beginning with body weight movements, now lifting substantial weight on all of her full body lifts, we have noticed such confidence in how she approaches the workouts. Her mental and emotional courage shine brightly in the gym, and that has led to physical strengths on paper. She also is a brilliant musician (see below on all she has accomplished and is still a part of), a mom/wife, and just an all around beautiful soul to be around. We love you Paula, we are so happy for you in all you’ve been able to overcome, and we know God is using your journey to inspire others to keep working through challenges they may face. Let’s keep going! So proud of you!!

Since 1/6/23, she has been able to gain 14 lbs of lean muscle mass! She is so much stronger, leaner, and able to do so much more in and out of the gym than before!

I’ll start off by saying, I’m so honored to be chosen for the TTT Client Highlight because I feel like I am just beginning on this journey, and know I have so much to learn.

When I’m not at TTT , I’m wife to the hard working and supportive Mike, and mom to Sonia-20, Risa-18, and Becca-14. My sweet girls encourage me and are inspired by my TTT activity, which then inspires me right back! I’m in my 28th year as music director at Crossroads Church, and my 23rd year in the Grammy award winning Kansas City Chorale! Monday through Friday you can happily find me as the vocal assistant at Olathe Northwest HS. In the summer time I am lucky enough to be on staff at StageworX musical theater camp and will begin year #25 soon! I love what I do and the many hats I get to wear, and am lucky to be living the life I had dreamed about. I’m a transplant from Casper, Wyoming where I grew up, and a music educator with a degree from UMKC. Trying new and healthy recipes has become a new hobby, as well as being a dog mom to my buddy and first dog Bindi, our mini goldendoodle.

A little bit about my fitness journey: I came to TTT in January 2023 on the recommendation of a physical therapist. Late October of 2022, I had some unexplained painful swelling in my knees. I was so discouraged and felt as though I had aged 20 years overnight. A year prior, I had lost 25 pounds I put on during lockdown. I was eating right to keep up with our wonderfully busy life and feeling great. I knew I needed to begin strength and resistance training, but was scared I would injure myself further. I’ve had multiple surgeries on my Achillies tendons since I was 12 that added to my apprehension. Those fears melted away when I began at TTT. Knowing I can ask for help, having trainers correct and help my form, and give modifications when needed has kept me going. I would have quit long ag, had it not been for Angie and her team that have created this safe and fun environment! There is no competition or embarrassment, only encouragement from everyone. I’m having a great time getting to know more people at TTT! It keeps me coming back!

An aspect I love about TTT is the advantage I have to schedule my classes. My own schedule changes around every 2 months, so having the options of 2 locations and times offered has been helpful for me. I’ve learned many tips from each trainer because each bring their own flavor of explaining and demonstrating exercises. Knowing I will have expert eyes on me no matter what class I attend, at any time, is such a comfort. At first, I went when I could, but now I prioritize my exercise routine because of the benefits it gives to all the other areas of my life. I have become comfortable with my own sweat!

I feel so fortunate to have found TTT at this stage of my life. I began with the mind set of continuing physical therapy and strengthening. Now I continue because I know what I DON’T want as I age. Balancing and stretching exercises have helped motivate me for the vision I have of my future self. TTT puts a bow on it all together in one place! The recent Monthly Recipe Packs with the meal planning kits are just another tool for success. Truly receiving encouragement with the whole person, physical and spiritual, is what drives Angie and her team, and it shows!

Thank you Angie, Chrissy, Jana & Jaclyn! I greatly benefit from your dedication, planning and encouragement every week! Friends, come work out with me! I’m so fortunate I get to be a member of TTT!
